6 Tips for the Hyundai TOC at Kapalua with Comfort Zone Maui Catering

The Hyundai Tournament of Champions Golf Tournament trophy at Kapalau Resort in West Maui.The PGA begins the golf season with the annual Hyundai Tournament of Champions golf tournament at Kapalua Resort in West Maui. Playing on the famed Plantation course, participating golfers will be challenged by the course length combined with sometimes difficult winds.

With the mainland entrenched in an already cold winter season with early snow storms sweeping across much of the country, the beautiful tropical scenery of Maui will be on display to provide a welcome warm up! The entire golf world is likely to be watching last season’s champions compete for the $1.1 million dollars winners prize on the Golf Channel. The Pro Am got underway today and several of the professional golfers have been vacationing on Maui before the tournament begins Friday. The final round will be played on Monday, January 7th and will be broadcast live on The Golf Channel (broadcast times below). Watch The Golf Channel for professional golf, beautiful Maui scenery and if you are lucky a whale jumping in the background of the tournament!

Comfort Zone Catering serves lunches for volunteers, on-course concessions and 18th hole SkyBoxes:

  • Concessions with a staff of 30 scattered around the golf course will be serving Shoyu Chicken, Hot Dogs and Grilled Hamburgers to hungry golf fans.
  • Sky Boxes on 18th hole, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and on Monday the tournament final.
  • 350 daily box lunches for media and volunteers.

Thanks to the tournament for the more than $4 million dollars provided to Maui charities since the tournament moved to Kapalua in 1999.Kapalua Resort is the home of the PGA Tour Hyundai Tournament of Champions Golf Tournament.

  1. Where do I get Hyundai Tournament of Champions Tickets and Costs? 2013 Hyundai Tournament of Champions tickets may be purchased on the tournament website (through Ticketmaster) or at the golf tournament at Kapalua. Clubhouse tickets are $30 each day and $40 for the final championship round on Monday. Grounds tickets are available at $15 for each day or $40 for a Friday through Monday pass.
  2. Where is ParkingWest Maui map to parking for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions Golf Tournament (shuttle to Kapalua). for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions? Parking for the 2013 Hyundai Tournament of Champions is convenient and easy at the Honua Kai in West Maui. Park and ride the shuttle to the Plantation course at Kapalua.   3. Where can I watch the Hyundai Tournament of Champions on TV? All four days of the tournament will be on the Golf Channel with coverage beginning at 5:30 pm EST and 10:30 pm on Friday and Saturday. Sunday action will be broadcast beginning at 3 pm on NBC and at 6 pm and 10:30 pm EST on The Golf Channel. The final round will be televised live on The Golf Channel beginning at 4 pm EST (10 am local HST).

  6. What time should I get to the Tournament? For the Friday through Sunday rounds, the tournament gates at Kapalua open at 8 am. The first time TeeHyundai Tournament of Champions Golf at Kapalua Resort in West Maui with Comfort Zone Catering. time will be around 10:20 am. For the final round on Monday, January 7th, the gates open at 7:30 am followed by the earlier Tee time of 8:15 am.

Before departing West Maui and less than 5 minutes south of the Honua Kai parking lots, be sure to stop at CJ’s Deli and Diner for the most affordable dining option in West Maui. Wonderful for a Sunday Brunch since you can order breakfast until 11:00am! Had a ‘custom’ 3 ingredient omelette (I chose mushrooms, feta and spinach) with nicely crunchy on the outside and soft inside home potatoes, yummy. Hubby had the pancakes with fresh fruit! These are light fluffy slightly sweet batter pancakes, not those heavy bland ones (OK I admit it, I had to have a few bites of his breakfast…) Service was fast and friendly :0). The menu is EXTENSIVE, we live here and love it!

CJ’s Deli and Diner Maui Restaurant Review

Fact: CJ’s Maui onion soup will melt your face off it’s so good. Best I’ve ever had. It gets 20 stars.
Alas, it’s not on the menu every day… But when my fiancee and I went this past summer and were lucky to meet Chef CJ in person and mentioned that we had been thinking about the onion soup since the last time we visited two years earlier, he was kind enough to put it on the next day’s menu. We went back the following day and ordered it, and it was amazing, just as we had remembered. Another fact: the onion soup at CJ’s is better than the onion soup at Mama’s Fish House (and at like 1/4th of the price). Really. It’s that good. Part of me wants to reverse engineer CJ’s onion soup recipe, quit my job, and make millions selling onion soup to the mainland masses! (or: CJ, wanna make a deal?)
I think that the loco moco gravy is made from the same goodness. So that’s great too. The potato salad is tasty as well.
The to-go lunch plate is respectable.

Maui Chef CJ Prepares Mushroom Soup for Kaanapali Restaurant Guest

On a previous visit to Maui, I had the most delicious mushroom soup at CJ’s Deli and Diner in Kaanapali. When I arrived in Maui this week, I emailed the restaurant and asked what day they might have the soup. The owner and chef, Christian Jorgensen (CJ), promptly replied even though he was on vacation in Vegas. He gave me a number to call to check on the soup of the day. Then when he returned to Maui on Friday, he emailed me to let me know he would have the soup for me on Saturday. When I got there, he was so friendly and the soup was even more scrumptious than I had remembered. I really appreciated how valued he made me feel as a customer.

Aloha, We were in to see you many times during our stay last month in Ka’anapali, couple of things for you:
Need to order some more of your CJ’s roasted Kona Coffee. I see it’s not yet on your website, only the Maui Coffee Co. stuff. We ran out last weekend and are having withdrawls, please help!! Need 2 bags urgently!!
Secondly, your claim about having the best corned beef hash on the island. I think you’ve understated this because it’s the best I’ve had any where in the world! And that covers a lot of ground as I’ve been to every continent multiple times. Just the best anywhere, period!! Don’t suppose you would have that for delivery to Indiana would you? Maybe by the pound(s)?
Great people and even better food, Mahalo CJ’s. Seriously though, please let me know about that coffee. How do we get some ordered and shipped to Indiana?

​CJ’s Deli & Diner Rocks! Been here several times while visiting Maui – each time we tried different meals and each time we LOVED the food, service and atmosphere. Only suggestion would be to provide regular dinner napkins along with this paper type – because we’re messy!
