Wedding on Maui? 5 Tips for Keeping Your Cool at Summer Weddings

Summer weather can get hot! Regardless of attending a summer wedding as a guest or getting married yourself, extra care is required to keep your cool at summer weddings. Since Hawaii provides year round summer weather and over the years we’ve helped many couples get married on Maui, I’ve learned a few tips to help participants and wedding guests stay cool even during the hottest part of the day!

Are you a bride getting married on Maui this summer? Or, maybe you’ll be travelling to a wedding on Maui or other tropical island wedding destination and concerned you’ll be uncomfortable. Here are a few summer wedding tips to keep your cool:

  1. Skip the traditional wedding Gown and Tux – Your getting married on Maui, a tropical island. Stay Colorful umbrellas and wedding chuppa provide shade at Weddings on Maui.cooler with lighter fabrics and less formality. If you are getting married on an island, go for casual island style. For men, this often means eliminating the formal wedding tux rental and wearing an aloha shirt or simple white linen shirt with khaki pants or upscale surf shorts. Many island brides skip the expensive traditional wedding gown and wear colorful summer dresses or at least lighter formal wear.
  2. Provide Shade for Wedding Ceremony and Guests Using Natural Design Elements – If your wedding will take place outdoors during daytime, you may want to consider shading both the ceremony and guests from direct sun. Couples getting married on Maui often opt for a bamboo chuppa. The ceremony is conducted under a wedding chuppa providing shade for both the couple and wedding officiate. Bamboo wedding chuppas complement the natural beauty of Maui and can be creatively adorned with fresh tropical flowers and covered with soft cloth for shade. Provide guests portable shade with colorful umbrellas and covered dinning options. Optionally, usually for larger events, tents or canopies may be used to provide shade. Tents, canopies, umbrellas, dinning chuppa and just about any other event rental equipment is available on Maui.   3. Avoid the hottest hours of the day – If you are planning your wedding and haven’t selected a time for the wedding ceremony, consider the cooler hours of the day. A wedding just before or at sunset gives opportunity for those memorable beach wedding photographs with the sunset in the background followed by a cool early evening wedding reception. Alternatively, morning weddings provide cooler temperatures and beach weddings are less busy. Other Maui wedding locations make great morning wedding venues. Follow a morning ceremony with a wedding brunch featuring food stations with a private chef personally preparing your guest’s omelets and eggs benedict with homemade hollandaise.
  4. Drink Water to Stay Hydrated – By the time you feel thirsty, your body is already dehydrated. Be sure to drink plenty of liquids so you stay ahead of the process. If it is your own wedding, go easy on alcohol consumption before the wedding. You’ll have a lot on your mind and the effects of alcohol are compounded when it gets hot. If you decide to enjoy a glass or three of champagne on your wedding day, be sure to stay hydrated and drink plenty of extra water.   5. Hang Loose and Enjoy YOUR Wedding Day – Sometimes, keeping cool has nothing to do with the heat. Don’t sweat the small stuff! Even the best planned events sometimes encounter unforeseen or unexpected issues. As we like to say on Maui, Hang Loose. Don’t let anything ruin your special day! Accept some things may come up and know you chose to work with professionals who are able and experienced managing such things.  Then relax and enjoy your Maui wedding Day.

Wonderful for a Sunday Brunch since you can order breakfast until 11:00am! Had a ‘custom’ 3 ingredient omelette (I chose mushrooms, feta and spinach) with nicely crunchy on the outside and soft inside home potatoes, yummy. Hubby had the pancakes with fresh fruit! These are light fluffy slightly sweet batter pancakes, not those heavy bland ones (OK I admit it, I had to have a few bites of his breakfast…) Service was fast and friendly :0). The menu is EXTENSIVE, we live here and love it!

CJ’s Deli and Diner Maui Restaurant Review

Fact: CJ’s Maui onion soup will melt your face off it’s so good. Best I’ve ever had. It gets 20 stars.
Alas, it’s not on the menu every day… But when my fiancee and I went this past summer and were lucky to meet Chef CJ in person and mentioned that we had been thinking about the onion soup since the last time we visited two years earlier, he was kind enough to put it on the next day’s menu. We went back the following day and ordered it, and it was amazing, just as we had remembered. Another fact: the onion soup at CJ’s is better than the onion soup at Mama’s Fish House (and at like 1/4th of the price). Really. It’s that good. Part of me wants to reverse engineer CJ’s onion soup recipe, quit my job, and make millions selling onion soup to the mainland masses! (or: CJ, wanna make a deal?)
I think that the loco moco gravy is made from the same goodness. So that’s great too. The potato salad is tasty as well.
The to-go lunch plate is respectable.

Maui Chef CJ Prepares Mushroom Soup for Kaanapali Restaurant Guest

On a previous visit to Maui, I had the most delicious mushroom soup at CJ’s Deli and Diner in Kaanapali. When I arrived in Maui this week, I emailed the restaurant and asked what day they might have the soup. The owner and chef, Christian Jorgensen (CJ), promptly replied even though he was on vacation in Vegas. He gave me a number to call to check on the soup of the day. Then when he returned to Maui on Friday, he emailed me to let me know he would have the soup for me on Saturday. When I got there, he was so friendly and the soup was even more scrumptious than I had remembered. I really appreciated how valued he made me feel as a customer.

Aloha, We were in to see you many times during our stay last month in Ka’anapali, couple of things for you:
Need to order some more of your CJ’s roasted Kona Coffee. I see it’s not yet on your website, only the Maui Coffee Co. stuff. We ran out last weekend and are having withdrawls, please help!! Need 2 bags urgently!!
Secondly, your claim about having the best corned beef hash on the island. I think you’ve understated this because it’s the best I’ve had any where in the world! And that covers a lot of ground as I’ve been to every continent multiple times. Just the best anywhere, period!! Don’t suppose you would have that for delivery to Indiana would you? Maybe by the pound(s)?
Great people and even better food, Mahalo CJ’s. Seriously though, please let me know about that coffee. How do we get some ordered and shipped to Indiana?

​CJ’s Deli & Diner Rocks! Been here several times while visiting Maui – each time we tried different meals and each time we LOVED the food, service and atmosphere. Only suggestion would be to provide regular dinner napkins along with this paper type – because we’re messy!
