Interweave Your Lives Through Sand at Your Maui Wedding

Interweave Your Lives Through Sand at Your Maui Wedding

Maui wedding sand exchange ceremony image. The Unity Sand Ceremony has become a popular new element of Maui weddings. The bride and groom pour different colors of sand into the unity vase, which has been lined with a base of white or buff colored sand. This base symbolizes the foundation of the marriage, whether it be the couple’s faith, family, or relationship up to now.

Just as the colorful grains of sand can never be separated, the lives of the bride and groom are interwoven as they become one forever!

Because the wedding sand exchange ceremony is such a new concept to many people, it helps to have guidance from someone who has been involved in sand ceremonies before. Chef Christian Jorgensen, Comfort Zone Weddings, coordinates with a wedding minister who leads the couple through the ceremony. The Comfort Zone Maui Wedding Planning also provides the table for the sand exchange ceremony and the unity jar itself if the couple would like.

With the security of having expert help, the bride and groom are free to get creative about their wedding keepsake. Couples will need to bring their individual vessels for pouring out sand and, if they prefer, their own unity jar or vase. Nice glasses, vases, or jars can be found at craft stores, florists, bridal boutiques, and antique shops. Even better are items that already have sentimental value to the couple, like:

  • the vase that held the 1st bouquet he gave her
  • the wine bottle from dinner the night he proposed
  • empty bottles from each other’s favorite perfume or cologne
  • the champagne flutes they will use at the reception

Before arriving on Maui, the couple should also buy the sand they prefer to use for the sand exchange ceremony. Most local craft stores carry a brilliant array of the colorful crystals. When choosing the individual sand colors, the couple might consider:

  • the wedding couples favorite colors
  • the wedding color scheme
  • yellow and blue representing Maui sunshine and sea
  • colors that remind of each other (perhaps each writes an explanation of why color was selected – roll it into a small scroll and place it in the jar).

While selecting the sand and individual vessels, some couples include family members or other loved ones, too. Having their parents, or others who play an important role in their relationship, participate by pouring their own sand symbolizes the love that will support the newlyweds as they begin their marriage.

Maui wedding sand ceremony exchange with multi colored sands permanently intermixed as part of the unity sand exchange ceremony.

Afterward, other decorative items may also be placed in the vessel for accent or because they have special meaning to the couple. Our recommendations include:

  • flowers
  • shells or pebbles
  • beads
  • charms
  • a small photo
  • a keepsakes like ticket stubs from their 1st date or the cork from the champagne toast at the reception

Depending on the shape of the unity vase, it could be decorated with a bridal accessory or a piece of wedding apparel. Tying a ribbon from the groom’s lei or draping the bride’s necklace around the neck of the jar makes a unique accent for display.

At the wedding reception, the unity vase makes a nice centerpiece at the head table, particularly if it is paired with a fresh lei or tropical flowers.

At home, it is a unique keepsake from your Maui wedding. It can be displayed on a:

  • bookshelf with the wedding album
  • mantel surrounded by candles or the individual pouring vessels
  • windowsill to sparkle in the sun
  • wall shelf with an arrangement of framed wedding photos
  • bedside table as a reminder of the Maui honeymoon

As the couple enjoys years of wedded bliss, they will also enjoy their unique memento of a wedding in Hawaii and a honeymoon in Hawaii, when their lives became forever intertwined.

Perhaps they will return to Maui one day, maybe with their children, and create a new unity vase at a vow renewal ceremony. Each of them could pour in a color to create a family keepsake symbolizing the interlacing of their lives. Reminiscent of the sand in an hourglass, the vow renewal sand ceremony is a celebration of time passing meaningfully.

CJ’s Kaanapali Diner Review

My daughter and I visited Maui a couple of weeks ago and came to your restaurant 3 times. I just wanted to thank you for your willingness to meet our gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free requirements. We loved being able to eat out safely and wish we had a CJ’s at home! I just wrote you a stellar review on Trip Advisor. Hope you have a wonderful rest of the summer!

CJ’s Maui Restaurant Review

Wonderful for a Sunday Brunch since you can order breakfast until 11:00am! Had a ‘custom’ 3 ingredient omelette (I chose mushrooms, feta and spinach) with nicely crunchy on the outside and soft inside home potatoes, yummy. Hubby had the pancakes with fresh fruit! These are light fluffy slightly sweet batter pancakes, not those heavy bland ones (OK I admit it, I had to have a few bites of his breakfast…) Service was fast and friendly :0). The menu is EXTENSIVE, we live here and love it!

CJ’s Deli and Diner Maui Restaurant Review

Fact: CJ’s Maui onion soup will melt your face off it’s so good. Best I’ve ever had. It gets 20 stars.
Alas, it’s not on the menu every day… But when my fiancee and I went this past summer and were lucky to meet Chef CJ in person and mentioned that we had been thinking about the onion soup since the last time we visited two years earlier, he was kind enough to put it on the next day’s menu. We went back the following day and ordered it, and it was amazing, just as we had remembered. Another fact: the onion soup at CJ’s is better than the onion soup at Mama’s Fish House (and at like 1/4th of the price). Really. It’s that good. Part of me wants to reverse engineer CJ’s onion soup recipe, quit my job, and make millions selling onion soup to the mainland masses! (or: CJ, wanna make a deal?)
I think that the loco moco gravy is made from the same goodness. So that’s great too. The potato salad is tasty as well.
The to-go lunch plate is respectable.

Maui Chef CJ Prepares Mushroom Soup for Kaanapali Restaurant Guest

On a previous visit to Maui, I had the most delicious mushroom soup at CJ’s Deli and Diner in Kaanapali. When I arrived in Maui this week, I emailed the restaurant and asked what day they might have the soup. The owner and chef, Christian Jorgensen (CJ), promptly replied even though he was on vacation in Vegas. He gave me a number to call to check on the soup of the day. Then when he returned to Maui on Friday, he emailed me to let me know he would have the soup for me on Saturday. When I got there, he was so friendly and the soup was even more scrumptious than I had remembered. I really appreciated how valued he made me feel as a customer.

Good Morning, My wife and I spent last week in Maui. Your early bird special was the best. After we found you, we ate breakfast there every morning. You had two regular coffees that we just loved.

Aloha, We were in to see you many times during our stay last month in Ka’anapali, couple of things for you:
Need to order some more of your CJ’s roasted Kona Coffee. I see it’s not yet on your website, only the Maui Coffee Co. stuff. We ran out last weekend and are having withdrawls, please help!! Need 2 bags urgently!!
Secondly, your claim about having the best corned beef hash on the island. I think you’ve understated this because it’s the best I’ve had any where in the world! And that covers a lot of ground as I’ve been to every continent multiple times. Just the best anywhere, period!! Don’t suppose you would have that for delivery to Indiana would you? Maybe by the pound(s)?
Great people and even better food, Mahalo CJ’s. Seriously though, please let me know about that coffee. How do we get some ordered and shipped to Indiana?

CJ’s Deli & Diner Rocks! Been here several times while visiting Maui – each time we tried different meals and each time we LOVED the food, service and atmosphere. Only suggestion would be to provide regular dinner napkins along with this paper type – because we’re messy!
